Refreshing change of grapes:
Clarksburg Viognier.

The White Knight Clarksburg Viognier 2014 photographed ny Jerry Hall on Winewaves & More.
  • Clarksburg isn't too well known as a wine growing area and doesn't appear on many wine labels but maybe it should. Just south of Sacramento, the area is known for Bogle Vineyards and Wilson Farms, supplier to Vinum Cellars for their popular Chenin Blanc. Wines from here offer excellent value.
  • Viognier is the only grape permitted for making Condrieu AOC wines, which are highly prized. The climate of Clarksburg seems to be ideal for growing Viognier, yielding aromatic grapes with good sugar and acid balance.
  • The White Knight Clarksburg Viognier 2014 is really peachy, apricot-y, minerally, and a touch herbal. Here's a refreshing change of grapes. The palate is tart and reverberates all over. Super aromatic, you want to keep your nose in the glass after it's empty. This is pure Viognier from Clarksburg, just what we're looking for. 13.5% ABV. Screw cap. Local price/750 ml: 11.
  • The White Knight label comes from August Sebastiani's The Other Guys, or as they recently announced their new name, 3 Badge Enology. They also do a fine job with their other labels, value oriented Leese-Fitch, Plungerhead, Pennywise, Hey Mambo, Moobuzz and upmarket Gehricke.
