Evodia Aragon Grenache 2014 photographed by Jerry Hall on Winewaves & More.
  • Aragon is located in the north of Spain, from the Pyrenees to the Iberian plateau. Garnacha (grenache) is widely grown and can make big wines that are uniquely expressive of this area. The grapes for this wine were grown at 2400-3000 feet elevation on dry-farmed old vines (up to 100 years old).
  • Evodia 2014 opens with lots of black raspberry and candied fruit in the nose, and there are savory supporting notes along the lines of tea, olive and meat. On the tongue it's peppery, citrusy tart and has purple berry flavors and a dry gravelly finish. It's 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. Minimal wood influence from partial aging in demi-muids allows the fruit to dominate. Real Cork. 14.5% ABV. Local price/750 ml: 12.
  • Parker's 90 point rating helps get this affordable Spanish red shelf space. He called it a "remarkable wine that sells at $10". Eric Solomon imports this custom cuvee for his European Cellars.
  • This wine is looking for a bite to eat. I tasted it by itself and then with a pan grilled garlic sausage, peppers and onions, a nice combo.
