Ca' Momi Napa Valley Merlot 2014 photographed by Jerry Hall on Winewaves & More.
  • I relate to Paul Giamatti's character Miles in Sideways (2004). I even sat at his seat at the bar at the Hitching Post a couple of years after the movie dropped and echo the virtues of Santa Barbara County Pinot. That movie may have caused Merlot to lose favor as Miles famously said, "No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!" But Napa Merlot strikes me as a very smart move because when it's good, it's great, and the prices can be quite attractive.
  • Ca' Momi Napa Valley Merlot 2014 opens with ripe dark fruit aromas, spice and perfectly roasted oak notes that bring back memories of Napa tasting rooms. On the palate it's full-bodied and well structured, almost buttoned down like a big name Cab but in a generous way. The acidity stimulates your appetite. The finish is big and dusty. One glass begs for another as previously hidden Napa sensibilities emerge. This is exactly what we're looking for. 13.9% ABV. Real cork. Local price/750 ml: 15.
  • Ca' Momi founders Valentina Guolo-Migotto, Dario De Conti and Stefano Migotto all grew up in Italy. They farm two vineyards in Carneros and one in Wild Horse Valley to the east of Napa. The winery got started in 2006. They also purchase grapes from other growers in Napa Valley.
