  • When I was getting my MBA from Vandy's Owen school I had the pleasure of a few moments consultation with Bruce Henderson. He retired having founded Boston Consulting Group and was teaching a class, and agreed to give me career advice. "Sell books door to door. And if you haven't been fired three times, you haven't done anything yet." Not what I expected; I was hoping for an invitation to apply to BCG. Three decades later, I've checked off all those boxes. Most recently, after 17 years in various roles with Frugal MacDoogal's, they dropped me. I started as a night cashier, working my way to the role of contract web guy, until being sacked.
  • So Winewaves & More is started. Or better yet, restarted. Back in the mid-2000's, I produced a blog of that name, ending it to focus on the Frugal account. At one time, the original Winewaves consistently cracked the top 20 wine blogs in terms of viewers. The "& More" refers to the addition of spirits, beer and literally more to be determined.
  • Nashville is home. There are plenty of local and regional wineries, breweries, distilleries, small-batch producers and retailers to visit and follow. A self-taught photographer, my black and white "shots" were published by the Nashville Scene dozens of times in the 1990s and 2000s. A future project is to revamp 2nashville.com and deep deep into this body of work and mix it with new local shots.
  • My Vandy chemical engineering degree should have led me to making whiskey and my first job did involve distilling, for a division of Shell Oil. Sadly, it was ethylene glycol, not ethanol. The distillation columns I used to climb were 75 feet tall.
  • Riding my bike every day ensures I'm always thirsty. And when the ride is over, it's always five o'clock somewhere. Grab a glass. Cheers!
